This module is based on the MAX7219 chip which is a compact, serial input common-cathode driver that interfaces microcontrollers to LED matrices.
All common microcontrollers can be connected to this module by using a 4-wire serial interface. Each output can be addressed without refreshing the entire display.
This module requires only 3 I/O lines for driving the display, making it ideal for your microcontroller projects.
MAX7219 is an integrated serial input/output common-cathode display driver, which connects a microprocessor and an 8-digit 7-segment digital LED display, and can also connect to a bar graph display or 64 independent LEDs. It includes an on-chip B-type BCD encoder, multiple scan loops, segment word drivers, and an 8*8 static RAM to store each data. Only one external register is used to set the segment current of each LED.
A convenient four-wire serial interface can be connected to all general-purpose microprocessors. Each data can be addressed without rewriting all the displays when updating. MAX7219 also allows users to select encoding or not encoding for each data. The entire device includes a 150μA low-power shutdown mode, analog and digital brightness control, a scan limit register allowing users to display 1-8 bits of data, and a detection mode to make all LEDs glow.
Only 3 IO ports can drive 1 dot matrix! No flicker during dot matrix display! Support cascading!
1. The left side of the module is the input port, and the right side is the output port.
2. When controlling a single module, you only need to connect the input port to the CPU
3. When multiple modules are cascaded, the input terminal of the first module is connected to the CPU, the output terminal is connected to the input terminal of the second module, the output terminal of the second module is connected to the input terminal of the third module, and so on.
Take 51 single chip microcomputer as an example:
VCC → 5V
GND → GND
DIN → P22
CS → P21
CLK → P20
Excellent product/Seller
I ordered two of this 8x8 LED Matrix and it came out in excellent condition. Working Great in Arduino. Just in time to finish my project. Definitely Gonna Buy more stuffs in this store. Not to mention. The seller is super approachable! Kudos!
Fun little display
Very easy to setup and use with Arduino libraries.
Five Stars
Excellent. Gets the job done. The LED matrix works well for me.
Works great!
Easy to use and very bright. Great deal and a cool learning tool for kids and adults.
Nice display. Very easy to program.
Got this for a project I'm working on and found it pretty easy to use. I wrote a driver for it for the Pi and tested it out and it works great. It's also easy to get working on the Arduino, or even your own custom hardware.
